"Creativity can make it precious and valuable so that it's hard to throw away"
Building a relationship with the receiver is very important. For a direct mail to be sucessful it needs to create an impact from the moment people see it amogst all the other mail. It's got to stand out. If it creates a positive impact and is memorable it will be sucessful.
I found the examples above very interesting. The Air mail dress was designed by Hussein Chalayan and folds out from a single envelope.
The idea of the Pop up House is that the receiver interacts with the piece and makes the house pop up. The designer, Yukari Yoshime, was inspired by the connections people have between objects and their respective environments.
The Levis Pop Up Closet is slightly different as it's Direct Mail that was sent to one specific place and is very big. I really like that the receiver has got to interact with it in order to understand it. It is also very memorable.
